The Roam Ink Community
City chapters, monthly meetups, partner coworking rates and a searchable member directory. The half of the product that has nothing to do with packets.
Ask about this
Connectivity is a solved problem in the sense that it can be bought. The harder problem for people who work away from an office is that a good apartment in a good city can still be very quiet by the third month. The Roam Ink community exists for that, and it is deliberately organised around presence rather than posting.
A chapter is a city with a resident organiser, a channel, a standing meeting slot and a short practical guide. The organiser lives there. That single requirement rules out a lot of what usually passes for community in this industry, and it is the reason chapter guides contain things you cannot easily search for.
How a chapter works
Each chapter runs a coworking day on a fixed weekday, at a partner space, at the same time every week. Fixed beats optimal here: a newcomer who arrives on a Tuesday knows without asking that Thursday is the day, and does not have to negotiate an introduction. Monthly meetups are separate, smaller and social rather than professional. There are no pitch nights, no badge scanning and no sponsor slots.
The chapter guide covers the practical questions that consume a newcomer's first fortnight: which banks will open an account for a foreigner, which neighbourhoods are quiet on a weekday, where to get a residence registration done, which cafés genuinely tolerate a four-hour laptop session, and what the local norms are around tipping, noise and appointments. It is written by residents and corrected constantly.
The member directory
- Opt-in field by field. City, role, skills, availability and contact preferences are each separately visible or hidden, at your choice.
- Not scraped, not sold. Nothing is imported from other platforms and nothing is passed to recruiters, advertisers or data brokers.
- Searchable by city and skill, which is how most collaborations between members actually begin.
- Deletion means deletion. Leaving removes your entry rather than archiving it somewhere out of sight.
Coworking partners
We negotiate member rates with independent coworking spaces in chapter cities, and we deliberately favour day passes and short blocks over annual contracts. That is how the work arrives: a fortnight here, six weeks there, occasionally a full season. Partner rates are personal to the member and cannot be transferred, which is the only rule the spaces ask us to enforce.
We choose independents over chains where we can, partly because they are usually better rooted in the neighbourhood, and partly because a local operator will tell an organiser honestly when a space is too full to send more people that month.
Harassment, recruitment spam, and exporting or republishing the directory are grounds for removal. This is stated plainly in the Terms and Conditions because a directory only works if people trust what happens to their entry.
What membership costs you in attention
We are wary of communities that demand constant presence. Chapter channels are quiet by design: announcements, the weekly coworking reminder, and questions that a resident can answer better than a search engine. There is no obligation to post, no engagement metric, and nobody is ranked by how visible they are.
That restraint is deliberate. Members are working, often across difficult time zones, and a community that behaves like a social network becomes one more thing to keep up with. The measure we care about is whether people turn up on the Thursday, not whether they reply within the hour.
Starting a chapter
Chapters need a resident organiser, not a visitor passing through. If you expect to be in a city for at least a few months, know a coworking space that might host, and are willing to turn up on the same weekday every week, write to us. We provide the channel, the listing, the partner introductions and a small budget for the first few sessions; you provide the continuity, which is the part that cannot be outsourced.
Chapters occasionally go dormant when an organiser moves on. We mark them dormant rather than quietly deleting them, so that nobody arrives in a city expecting a Thursday that no longer happens.
About the roam ink community
Do I need a data plan to join the community?
No. Membership and connectivity are separate. Plenty of members joined a chapter first and only later bought a plan, and some never buy one at all.
How large are the meetups?
Deliberately small. A meetup that needs a microphone has stopped being a meetup, so chapters split rather than scale.
Can I hide my directory entry entirely?
Yes. Every field is optional, and you can be a member with no visible entry at all while still using chapter channels and partner rates.
Tell us where you are going and we will tell you what fits
Written answers, usually within one business day, from people who can read a provisioning log rather than a script.
